Taipei to show at 2010 Expo
Taipei became the latest city to sign up for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo on Thursday.
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng and visiting Mayor of Taipei Hau Lung-bin witnessed the contract signing, which will allow Taipei to set up two pavilions within the Expo's Urban Best Practices Area. The popularization of wireless broadband, and the reduction of urban waste and recycling will be the themes of the two pavilions.
In recent years, the Taipei government has appealed to its employees to use the Internet for some of their daily errands. The city has managed to reduce its waste output by 60 percent. Hau said Taipei's participation in the Expo will set a good example for future communication across the Taiwan strait and will be mutually beneficial.
